The Space Between was developed as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Due to gallery closures, social distancing measures, and economic strain, artists were effectively stripped of any ability to showcase their work. The Space Between is the first in a series of immersive art exhibitions that recreate the power of direct experience for online consumption.

SPACE
[speys]
The unlimited or incalculably great three-dimensional realm or expanse in which all material objects are located...
...and all events occur.
When reflecting upon the theme of this exhibition, I was immediately drawn to the idea of exploring the way in which we perceive space, as well as those things inhabiting it.
My work speaks to the limitations of perception and illuminates the process by which we infuse meaning into the illusory objects our minds choose to discern.
— Nick Thornburg

The world around us — the space in which we reside, act, interact, and live out our lives — is an arena of meaning-making.
As we remove ourselves from such direct experience...
...we are left with contours into which we pour meaning.
We color abstractions using our minds...
... and breathe life into them.
